Conformance in the ePrescribing Ecosystem
Conformance is a mandatory requirement for any product or vendor operating within the ePrescribing ecosystem. By adhering to conformance profiles set by the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA), software developers and vendors ensure their solutions meet the functional, technical, and safety standards needed to interact with national digital health systems.
Purpose of Conformance Profiles
Conformance profiles are created and maintained by the ADHA to mitigate risks and establish clear expectations for third-party software that connects with key digital health systems. These profiles define the functional and non-functional requirements for software involved in electronic prescribing, enabling secure and reliable interactions within the ePrescribing ecosystem. Conformance requirements cover aspects like account management, presentation of electronic scripts, and security.

When a new conformance profile is published, implementation does not occur immediately across the ecosystem. Updates first need to be made by systems like the NPDS and ASL to support the new profile. Upstream systems, such as prescribing and dispensing software, may also require updates before Mobile Intermediaries and Mobile Apps can proceed with their own transitions.
Steps in the Conformance Process
To achieve conformance, the following steps are required of vendors and their products:

-
Understanding Profile Requirements
-
Review the conformance profile to ensure you understand the functional and non-functional requirements applicable to your software.
-
-
Documenting Evidence
-
Provide detailed documentation demonstrating how your product meets the outlined requirements.
-
-
Observed Conformance Testing
-
Undergo live testing with assessors to validate your solution. This includes demonstrating that your product behaves as intended in accordance with the requirements.
-
-
ADHA Review
-
Final review by ADHA who will then provide approval to go to production and list your app on the
